Fayette County Fair Plant Show Winners

Margaret Roscher won grand champion in the general floral division of the Fayette County Fair Plant Exhibit. Her entry was a majestic arrowhead ivy. Roscher said the ivy could have done even better were it not for heavy pressure from grasshoppers this year. Reserve champion in the general floral division went to Carol Svrcek (not pictured). Marge Rosenberg won grand champion in the cactus and succulent division of the Fayette County Fair Plant Exhibit. Her entry was a mother of thousands plant. The plant features numerous tiny “pups” that resemble fringe along the edges of the leaves. Rosenberg said a new plant will grow from any pup that breaks off and falls to the ground, hence the name “mother of thousands.”
Cara Homer won grand champion in the youth division of the Fayette County Fair Plant Exhibit. Homer also won the $50 point prize in the youth division. Remington Denham (not pictured) won reserve champion in the youth division.
Anna Chovanec won reserve champion in the cactus and succulent division of the Fayette County Fair Plant Exhibit. Her entry was a interesting-looking cactus growing inside a boot. Chovanec did not know the name of the cactus species. She said it was one of her only outside plants that survived the harsh freeze back in February. Chovanec also won the $50 point prize in the adult division.

Fayette County Fair Plant Show winners were announced last Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Fairgrounds. There were 44 entries in the show, including 4 youth entries and 40 adult entries.

Judges were Jeanette Huelsebusch, Penni Lee and Diane Johnson. They awarded 34 blue ribbons and 10 red ribbons. Margaret Roscher won grand champion and Carol Svrcek won reserve champion in the general floral division. Marge Rosenberg won grand champion and Anna Chovanec won reserve champion in the cactus division. Youth division grand champion was Cara Homer. Remington Denham won reserve champion in the youth division.

Anna Chovanec also won the $50 point prize in the adult division. Cara Homer won the $50 point prize in the youth division.

Dustin Machinsky was chairman of the Fayette County Fair Plant Exhibit. He wished to thank his fellow committee members Lorie Machinsky and Catherine Marks.
