Land is a gift from God, granted when He gave mankind dominion over the earth. Did you know that three of the four faces on Mount Rushmore were land surveyors? My favorites are Washington and Jefferson, both county surveyors from an early age. It is no coincidence they understood land and its importance to liberty and government. The founding fathers were not merely bold visionaries, but also land owners. Maintenance of the land records and the regulation of subdivisions are vital county functions and citizens interact with and rely upon land daily.

My name is Bradley Neville and I am proud to announce my candidacy in the Republican Primary for Justice of the Peace Precinct #2. As some of you might know I am a fifth generation Fayette County resident who believes in strong family and community ties.

A number of local and county offices will be up for election in 2022. The Fayette County Record, as a service to readers, allows candidates for public office to run one free campaign announcement, to let people know you are running, why you are running and a little about you.

In the early morning hours of Dec. 12 while on patrol Deputy Seth Nagel observed a vehicle commit multiple traffic violations at the intersection of N. Jefferson and Travis St. in La Grange. Deputy Nagel attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle The vehicle made an immediate turn, increased speed, cut off their vehicle lights, disregarded a stop sign, and eventually left the roadway driving through the yards of some residences in an attempt to evade Deputy Nagel. Deputy Nagel located the vehicle, unoccupied in the back yard of a residence. Deputy Nagel and other Deputies began to search the area.

On December 11 Deputy Dustin Kieschnick conducted a traffic stop on Highway 71 near Ellinger. Kieschnick observed loose marijuana laying in the open on the center console and in the driver’s lap. Both subjects had provided a false name for the driver. Kieschnick checked the correct information for the driver and found that the subject was wanted on multiple warrants. Kieschnick also located an unmarked pill bottle in the vehicle containing prescription pain medication. Arrested were Jonathan Welch, 31, and Christian Dixon, both of Houston.

Jefferson Place retirement home in La Grange held their annual Christmas Party last week. Ken Brothers, above, performed for the party and Leo Wick, seated, left, in the lower photo, was honored for volunteering to call bingo at the facility weekly.

Fayette County Commissioners discussed but took no action on a proposal to hire courthouse security officers at a meeting Thursday, Dec. 9.
