Professor Oats, a Quaker parakeet belonging to Loretta Greenwood of La Grange, spent the weekend enjoying the view from rooftops around town. Thankfully he returned home on Monday.

This week a reader sent me a photo of some interesting damage to the limbs of her persimmon trees. The damage appears as a clean v-shaped cut formed in a circle around twigs and small branches.

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on the evening of December 10 Deputy Seth Nagel conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Hwy. 71 near Ellinger. While conducting a search of the vehicle Deputy Nagel located a large number of individual containers of marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms in a bag the driver had stated was his. Arrested and booked into the Dan R. Beck Justice center was Jerome Turner, age 31, of Pearland for Possession of Marijuana and multiple charges for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

La Grange HEB donated 125 vouchers for free turkeys to St. Mark’s employees to thank them for their service to this community. Last Thursday author Lynne Kelly conducted a virtual author visit with LGISD 5th grade students in the Performing Arts Center. Kelly, an author and a sign language instructor who lives in Houston, was broadcast live on the big screen at the center as she talked about her book “Song for a Whale,” an award-winning story of a deaf girl’s connection to a whale whose song can’t be heard by his species, and the journey she takes to help him. After her talk, several students were able to approach the microphone and ask her questions. The talk was coordinated by LGISD elementary librarian Amy McCord.

The La Grange City Council heard a report on progress made in the City’s 20-year comprehensive plan at a meeting Monday, Dec. 13.
