Emmett Worsham, 24 of La Grange, died on Dec. 19 after spending five days in a coma following a physical altercation with a bar bouncer in San Marcos on Dec. 12. According to KXAN News, Worsham was trying to get into the Red Room Lounge in San Marcos when a bouncer denied him entry. The bouncer, Milton Heyliger, allegedly struck Worsham and knocked him unconscious. Heyliger was initially charged with aggravated assault. He posted bail and was released on Dec. 17. Heyliger was subsequently charged with manslaughter after Worsham succumbed to his injuries. Heyliger was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 22.

In the Tuesday, Dec. 21 paper, we printed an incorrect date for the last day to file for a place on the ballot. The correct date is Friday, Feb. 18th, by 5 p.m. is the correct date. Feb. 22 is the last day for for “write-in” candidates to file for a place on the ballot.

A night of drinking at a friend’s house for Richie Griffin in Austin led to the holidays spent in the court system after he crashed into a home when he got behind the wheel drunk. This is just one of many stories that highlight the costly and tragic consequences of driving under the influence. This holiday season, TxDOT wants to remind Texans to always find a sober ride.

The Fayette County Fair Association had their annual Christmas Party. Members of the Association brought children’s gifts to donate to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy Santa Program. Two Officers joined the Association to collect the gifts. On Nov. 14, the Colorado Valley Detachment No. 1028 celebrated their 246th Birthday at the Wine Bar at the Grand Fayette Hotel in Fayetteville. Each year, the Marine gather all over the world on the Saturday closets to Nov. 10 to celebrate their inception which began Nov. 10, 1775 and to honor the memory of the thousands of men and women who served as Marines.

Last week, as the La Grange Randolph Recreation Center prepared for three days of “ice” skating, somebody had a brilliant idea. Central Texas isn’t exactly known for hockey sticks or double toe loops, so the beginners who would come out to try their hands (well, feet) at skating might need a little assistance.
