Blacksmithing Class is in Session

Expert and beginner blacksmiths warm up around a hot forge at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center on Wednesday, Jan. 26. The Center hosted a blacksmithing class ahead of this weekend’s big event at the Center – The Texas Antique Gas Engine Reunion and Texas Blacksmithing Conference. The event starts at noon on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. Attendees can enjoy demonstrations and live music throughout the day on Saturday. Photo by Andy Behlen

Plans for the second annual Texas Blacksmith Conference & the Hume L. Baker Texas Antique Gas Engine Reunion have been finalized. The events will be held January 28-29 at the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center’s Czech Village grounds in La Grange, beginning at noon on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. Last year’s event was huge and we hope to make this year’s event even better.

The four Republican candidates for Fayette County Judge all took the stage Saturday and introduced themselves: William Bernsen, a land surveyor and long-time Republican activist from Plum; Dan Mueller, the current Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace and co-owner and announcer at KBUK/KVLG radio station; Craig Moreau, the current Fayette County Chief of Emergency Management and Homeland Security who also serves as a Houston firefighter; and Lori Berger, the former Mayor of Flatonia and former LCRA board member who owns and operates the Winehaus restaurant in Flatonia.
