La Grange Back in the Film Spotlight

An HBO Max TV series called “Love and Death” will be filming in La Grange next week Monday and Tuesday in and around the iconic Cottonwood Inn Motel in La Grange located at 1494 W. State Hwy. 71 in La Grange.

That same motel, which retains the looks of a 1950s motel, has been featured in “Fear The Walking Dead” and “Hope Floats” among other things over the years.

Intermittent traffic control will be conducted on Hwy. 71 during the filming.

All residents and businesses will have full access to their properties during the duration of filming.

Off duty La Grange Police officers will be on site at all times for safety and help with the flow of traffic.

City Manager Shawn Raborn informed the La Grange City Council about the production at a meeting Monday night, Jan. 24. He said about 150 people will be involved in the production.

Mayor Jan Dockery asked Raborn why they chose to film at the Cottonwood Inn.

“It’s kind of locked in time,” Raborn said. “It has been filmed more than you would ever think in commercials.”

The crew will set up a base camp in the KC Hall parking lot, he said.

“Love and Death” is a limited series that has also been filming in Kyle and Lockhart over the past few months, about the true story of Texas housewife Candy Montgomery’s murder of Betty Gore in 1980.

Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff from the Marvel movies and series) stars in the series “Love and Death” as does Jesse Plemons (The Power of the Dog, Friday Night Lights) and Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad).
