Icy Conditions Bring County to a Standstill
You know it’s time to stay home when even HEB closes.
The weather conditions were never as bad a predicted, but icy precipitation fell across Fayette County Thursday afternoon, prompting the closure of numerous businesses and governmental agencies, and yes, even an early closure for the La Grange HEB.
All Fayette County schools closed as a precaution Thursday, and with freezing weather staying around Friday morning as well, all the schools cancelled that day too.
But roadway accidents were few and far be tween. Some bridges and overpasses in the county did ice over but a healthy dose of gravel and ice kept them passable throughout the duration of the storm.
According to LCRA weather data, in La Grange the temperature dropped to freezing at 11:55 a.m. Thursday and stayed at 32 or below until 12:25 p.m. Friday afternoon, reaching a low of 23 early Friday morning.
It again got as low was 23 early Saturday morning. It all it was freezing for 37 hours in a 45 hour span between Thursday midday and Saturday morning.
