The date for the annual domino tournament held by the Winchester Area Civic Association has been set for Sunday, Feb. 20, beginning at 1 p.m. at the St. Michael’s Park Pavilion in Winchester. A meal will be available prior to the beginning of the tournament. Straight and 42 will be played. A silent auction is planned and will be BYOB. Proceeds benefit local charities and scholarships.

Erica Otto of Schulenburg was named to the Southwestern University Fall 2021 Dean’s Honor Roll. Otto is a freshman student-athlete majoring in Kinesiology/Pre-Med.

Vietnam Veterans Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on (Third Wednesday of the Month) at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville.

You know it’s time to stay home when even HEB closes. The weather conditions were never as bad a predicted, but icy precipitation fell across Fayette County Thursday afternoon, prompting the closure of numerous businesses and governmental agencies, and yes, even an early closure for the La Grange HEB.

La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery signed a proclamation declaring February as Colorado Valley Quilt Guild month. Mayor Dockery will be presenting two Mayor’s awards at the Best Little Quilt Show in Texas on February 25-26 at the La Grange Community Center, 190 S. An overflow crowd filled the meeting room at the Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club in La Grange on Saturday for the third and final forum of the Fayette County Republican County Judge candidates. Three of the four Republican candidates appeared at the forum.

Suspenders, bow ties and gray hair were common sights Wednesday at La Grange Elementary as students celebrated the 100th day of school. Kindergarteners celebrated by dressing up like 100-year-olds. On Jan. 12 The Independent Cattlemen’s Association (ICA) Board of Directors unanimously passed a resolution strongly supporting the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act of 2021 in the U.S. Congress.

The Round Top Festival Institute Bybee Library Fundraiser and Valentine’s Concert is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. This live one-hour benefit, “Love Songs Galore!” will feature Will Lynde on piano, joined by friends J. Gary Smith and Justin Fox on the Festival Concert Hall stage. Concert pianist and Institute Founder, James Dick, will also make an appearance. The afternoon will close with a drawing for a door prize. Adult tickets are $30 and student tickets are $10. The AMEN Food Pantry continued to be very busy in the month of January. Two hundred and fifty-one families were served for the month for a total of 677 individuals. A total of 126 volunteers for 350 hours served the pantry. A total of 2,601 pounds of food were donated.
