New Effort Started to Save LG’s Historic Faison House
The N.W. Faison House, located at 822 S. Jefferson St. (Hwy. 77) across from the Fayette Public Library in La Grange, is an important Fayette County cultural site, with a unique legacy dating from the mid-nineteenth century. The future of this privately-owned landmark, on the National Register of Historic Places at the state level of recognition for its social history, needs to be assured.
La Grange ISD Reports Case of TB at School
La Grange ISD Superintendent Bill Wagner reported on Monday, April 4, that an individual at La Grange Elementary School has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis (TB). Wagner said the individual is receiving treatment.
Wagner said the school is cooperating with the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Region 7. He said state officials have determined which students and staff may have been in close contact with the individuals. He said those parents and staff will receive a separate notification from TDSHS regarding testing.
Schulenburg Business Scene in April of 1877
The weekly Schulenburg Argus newspaper was able to reach the citizens at the rate of $2.50 per year. They offered print jobs that reflected the activities of Schulenburgers. On a strictly cash basis, they offered to print among many items: handbills, catalogues, ball tickets (dancing), mortgages, programs, dray receipts (freight delivery), wagon receipts, deeds, and posters. The paper noted in their advertisement: “We Defy Competition Either in Style or Price” and to “remember ALWAYS that we want the Money in Advance, in order that we may be enabled to buy paper and ink, pay rent, and employees.”
Thefts Reported in Muldoon Area
It appears that the Muldoon area has a problem with thieves again. This time they hit several places along Old Smithville Road. They broke into a place and rummaged through, taking odds, ends and miscellaneous items. They also cut the fence to follow an electric line to an abandoned oil field pad, apparently looking to find a barn to ransack.
