Penny Pinchers Learn About Banking at NBT

National Bank and Trust in La Grange hosted a group of La Grange kindergartners as part of the bank’s “Penny Pinchers” educational program.

Bank President and CEO Tracey Harris said NBT launched the educational program in 2016. Bank employees periodically give lessons at the school about banking. The program culminates in a field trip to the bank, which took place on Tuesday, March 29.

The kids visited four stations inside the bank. Loan officer Sandra Martinez taught the students about borrowing and the difference between wants and needs. The bank’s Traye Wright showed the students inside the vault and taught them about safety deposit boxes. The bank’s tellers showed the students how to write a check. The kids got to “cash in” the check for a sack of shredded money from the Federal Reserve. Finally, the bank’s Sandy Hooper showed the students inside the board room and discussed different decisions that the board has to make.
