Flatonia didn’t have to look far to find its new superintendent. Longtime Flatonia administrator and current interim superintendent Chris Sodek was named the sole finalist for the job at a special meeting held Thursday by the school’s board of trustees.

Train Strikes Truck Carrying Two

A train struck a commercial vehicle on the tracks near the intersection of Fayette and Mechanic St. in Fayetteville Saturday morning, April 23. The crash happened around 10:20 a.m. Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the crash, but the report was not available in time for this publication. Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department responded. Fayetteville Fire Chief Randy Noviskie said the truck driver and his son, who was a passenger, were transported to St. Mark’s Hospital by Fayette County EMS with non-life threatening injuries. Extension Education Association Hosts Spring Conference

The Fayette County Extension Education Association (EEA) recently hosted the Annual District 11 EEA Spring Conference. Sixty EEA members from nine counties in District 11 registered for the business meeting which was held at the Randolph Recreational Center.

La Grange Rotary Club Holding Fundraiser for Kyiv-Ukraine

The Rotary Club of La Grange is hosting a t-shirt fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Kyiv in Ukraine. T-shirts can be purchased at the Historic Casino Hall in La Grange and proceeds will directly benefit the Rotary Club of Kyiv to address their city’s immediate needs. The Rotary Club of La Grange has already raised over $5,000 to support Rotary District 2232 – Ukraine and their fund for immediate medical needs for their communities that they serve. “The Rotary Club of La Grange believes strongly in giving directly to other Rotary clubs since during Hurricane Harvey so many clubs supported our relief efforts. Our club is hoping to raise an additional $5,000 to send to Ukraine through our t-shirt fundraiser,” said Regina Keilers, President of the Rotary Club of La Grange.
