There was not a moment to spare for the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild on Tuesday, July 26. Tuesday’s meeting was filled with Janellea Macbeth at the morning meeting and Jamie Parker’s Sit and Stitch workshop in the afternoon. Janellea Macbeth was the guest speaker for Tuesday’s meeting. She is a Quilting Author with more than 26 years of quilting experience. Janellea looks for perspective ways as she “arts” her way through life. She is the author of the Amazon #1 bestseller ScrapStashtic Quilts. On Tuesday, she spoke to members on the importance of “Finish the Darn Quilt”.

Johnson Installed as New Pastor at Zion Lutheran in Schulenburg

Pastor-elect Gary Johnson of La Grange completed his ministry studies at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri and was ordained and installed as pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Schulenburg on Sunday, July 24. Rev. Michael Newman, President of the Texas District Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, performed the ordination and installation. Current and retired pastors from the area were in attendance to perform the Laying on of Hands and Blessing of the Pastor. A catered meal was served following the worship service. Grass Fire in Flatonia

Flatonia and Schulenburg firefighters put out a small grass fire near Flatonia on Friday, July 29. A motorist called 911 around 2:30 p.m. reporting a fire along FM 609 near Farek-Loth Rd. Flatonia Fire and Rescue was busy working a vehicle crash in Flatonia at the time. They sent one grass truck and a tanker and called for mutual aid from Schulenburg VFD. Schulenburg firefighters responded with two grass trucks and an additional tanker. The crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which burned less than an acre. Firefighters were not able to determine the cause of the fire. Workers were on the property when firefighters arrived, but a language barrier hampered communication. No one was injured and there were no major damages.

Leopard Band Already Back to Work

The La Grange Mighty Leopard Band held its first week of full band rehearsal, running July 25 through 29. Each day ran from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and consisted of full ensemble rehearsals outside in the morning when it was cooler, sectionals inside in the afternoon, and full ensemble rehearsals inside at the end of the day.
