Navidad Valley CattleWomen 5K Ranch Run Still Taking Registrations

The Schulenburg Festival is a community celebration. One of the traditions that brings friends and family out bright and early on Saturday morning is the5K. The 9th Annual Navidad Valley CattleWomen 5K Ranch Run will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, starting at 7:30 a.m.. It is not too late to register. On-line registration is available athttp:// getmeregistered.com/NVCattle-Women5K and is open through midnight on Thursday, Aug. 4. Pre-registration will save participants $5 and will ensuret that they get a shirt in the size they wish. There is also a special discount for junior high and high school cross country athletes. In person registration will also be available on Saturday morning beginning at 6 a.m. The funds raised will be awarded to graduating seniors from Fayette, Lavaca and Colorado counties withan interest in Agriculture. Navidad Valley CattleWomen have presented over $80,000 in scholarships since they were first awarded in 2006. St. James Welcomes Father Heying

A new rector has started work at St. James Episcopal Church, the congregation in the 1885 building across Travis Street from the H-E-B groceryin La Grange. Father Chris Heying (pronounced hi-ing) arrived in town the last day of July and began work at the church this week. He is joined by his wife, Cindy Heying, who will be a teacher in La Grange schools, and son Patrick, who will be a freshman in high school. The Heyings have two other children, a boy and agirl, who are in college. Heying comes from Dallas, where he has been a chaplain at a Veterans Administration hospital. Previously, Heying has served at churches in Virginia,New York and Louisiana. He was born and adopted in New Mexico and grew up in North Texas. He met Cindy when they were dorm coun-selors at All Saints’ Episcopal School in Vicksburg, Mississippi. They both worked at the Texas Department of Human Services before Chris entered seminary at Nashotah House in Wisconsin. He was ordained in 1998.

AMEN Food Pantry Hit By Supply Shortages

TheAMEN food pantry continues to serve large numbers, but has an unusual situation. “We have ample funds to purchase product from the Central Texas Food Bank, however, currently the Food Bank does not have product to serve the needs of our pantry – and all pantries across Central Texas,” said AMEN treasurer Garry Schellberg.

Shooting Spree Started at Weekend Pasture Party

The Fayette County Record Two Rosenberg men are in custody after a shooting spree that took place in the Schulenburg area on Friday night, July29.No one was struck by the gunfire, according to Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek. Brenek identified the suspects as Shermar MacAndrew Jones, 20, and Shawn MacAndrew Jones, 19, both of Rosenberg.
