LCRA Pulls Plan to Relax Power Plant Pollution Monitoring Requirements

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) has withdrawn its application to amend its wastewater permit for the Fayette Power Project near La Grange. “LCRA has decided not to pursue amendments to the Fayette Power Project wastewater discharge permit,” said Tom Oney, LCRA executive vice president for Public and Regulatory Affairs, in a statement to the Record on Wednesday, Aug. 24. Earlier this year, LCRA asked the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality to relax its pollution monitoring requirements for runoff at the power plant. Specifically, LCRA wanted to remove sele- nium limits for runoff from the power plant’s coal pile.

The annual Jr. Commercial Heifer Sale will be held at the Fayette County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Aug. 27 beginning at 1 p.m. About 130 head of quality bred heifers will be auctioned. Lunch served at 11. Come out and support the youth of Fayette County and buy some nice replacement heifers. Firm Outlines the LG City Manager Search Process

Monday night the La Grange City Council heard from Bret Bauer of Government Professional Solutions, the firm hired by the Council to help them search for a new city manager. La Grange City Manager Shawn Raborn announced earlier this year that he would retire at the end of next month. Bauer said he hopes to present a group of finalists for the Council to interview before Thanksgiving. Bauer gave a survey to each of the Council members and asked them to submit written responses. Bauer said he would use their responses to develop an ideal candidate profile.The questions included “How would you describe the ideal candidate?”, “What do you not want in your next city manager?” and “What kind of management style do you see needing in this position?”

Building Costs Skyrocketing LG Council Finds

The La Grange City Council got a taste of the skyrocketing cost for construction at a meeting on Monday, Aug. 22. At the meeting, the Council awarded a $496,882 contract to remodel the restrooms at the Fairgrounds Softball Field and build a maintenance building with restrooms at the City Cemetery.

Robertson Returns to Her Hometown With Job at RT-C

By MAKENZIE GIVAN The Fayette County Record Another teacher starting her first year at a Fayette County school is Laura Robertson, a new second and third grade Enlish/ Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at Round Top- Carmine Elementary. Robertson is a Fayette County native, but before making her way back to Round Top, she taught at Giddings for 16 years.

The third annual Turtle S’Wing & Shoot will be occurring on Sept. 20 at the Big Easy Ranch in Columbus. This is our largest event of the year, with all proceeds going toward the mission of Turtle Wing Foundation.

Public Hearing on County Budget Set for Thursday

Fayette County Commissioners will hold a public hearing over the proposed 2023 County Budget this Thursday, Aug. 25, at 1:30 p.m. The hearing will take place in the Commissioners Courtroom on the third floor of the Fayette County Courthouse in La Grange. Under the proposed budget, the County will spend more than it receives in revenue next year.

County Fair Seeking Agriculture Entries

The Fayette County Fair is actively seeking entries for the 2022 Agriculture Department Exhibit. The Agriculture Department is open to growers of all ages. There are no entry fees to enter items in the Agriculture Department. All products exhibited must be grown or prepared during the current year. All products must have been grown in Fayette County. Commercial sizes that would bring the highest market price, or sizes that are more desirable for home consumption, will be the basis upon which all products will be judged. Entries will be accepted and checked-in at the Creative Arts Building located on the Fayette County Fair Grounds on Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. All entries will be on display during the entire fair. Entries will be released from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 5.
