Spooky Stories

Looking for some chills and thrills during your Halloweekend? Come enjoy local legends and tall tales of Fayette County. Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites will share spooky stories on Saturday, Oct. 29. Stories begin at 7 p.m. but come early to watch the sunset and enjoy BYO picnics. Guests are encouraged to bring picnics, beverages, chairs or blanket, and flashlights. The sites’ regular admission fees apply to this program, but it is free for Friends Group members. Wildlife Association

The fall meeting and dinner for the Cummins Creek Wildlife Management Association will be held Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Rifle Hall at Round Top at 5:30 p.m. Speaker, dinner, refreshments, raffle and door prizes. Bring your favorite dessert to share. Free will donation.

Nassau Cemetery

Nassau Cemetery Association will hold a meeting on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Educational Building in Round Top. There’s more The International Wood Collectors Society presents Behind the Bark Nature’s Artworks at the Historic Casino Hall, 254 N. Jefferson in La Grange, Nov. 1 and 2 for an exhibit of natural art in the form of exceptionally figured woods. Featured are highly figured woods from around the world. If you love beautiful wood, you can’t miss this event. Tuesday, Nov. 1 from noon until 5 p.m. and Wednesday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No admission fee.

Plum Hermann Sons Life Meeting

The Plum Hermann Sons Life will hold their monthly meeting Tuesday, Nov. 1 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Prairie Valley Schoolhouse, 2510 Williams Rd. in West Point. Note the date change. Meal and dessert will be provided by the Lodge.

Hermann Sons Life

Hermann Sons Life Rutersville will have their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. The lodge will furnish barbecue chicken and baked potatoes. Members are asked to bring a side dish and a dessert.

CDA Pork Steak Drive-Thru Dinner

A pork steak drive-thru supper will be held Thursday, Nov. 3 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the KC Community Center located at 190 S. Brown St. in La Grange. The meal is sponsored by Catholic Daughters of the Americas No. 1962. Dinner will include a barbecue pork steak, buttered noodles, Californian-blend veggies, and corn. Drivethru only plates are $13. A limited number of plates will be available at drive thru.

American Legion Quade-Werchan

The next monthly meeting for American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338 and Ladies Auxiliary will occur on Thursday, Nov. 3 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Members are encouraged to attend as the post continues to plan for the 100th anniversary of the post to be celebrated on Nov. 11.

La Grange Senior Citizens Group

The La Grange Senior Citizens Annual Meeting/Luncheon will be held at the Randolph Recreation Center, 653 East Pearl Street in La Grange, on Thursday, Nov. 3 Registration will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Door prizes will be awarded to ten lucky attendees who have registered by 10:30 a.m. The meeting starts at 10:30 a.m., followed by a program presented by the Aging & Disability Center on fall prevention and remaining in your own home as long as possible. Lunch consisting of roast beef, potatoes and gravy with sides will be served at 11:30 a.m.

Dubina Book Signing

Ed Janecka will share some of his favorite stories from his and his wife’s new book, Dubina, A Place of Freedom and Hope, in a program sponsored by the Fayette Public Library, Museum, and Archives in the library meeting room, 855 S. The Great Gatsby Performance

Fayette County Community Theatre will present The Great Gatsby at the Pavilion on the grounds of the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center (the Round Up Hall) located at 250 W. Fairgrounds Rd. in La Grange. Performances will be Friday, Nov. 4, and Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available online at faycotheatre.com or at the box office at 120 S. The first annual Busted Oak Cellars Chili Cook-Off, Silent Auction and Arts & Crafts Show will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6195 Round Top Rd. in Carmine. KC & CDA Memorial Service & Mass

The annual Memorial Service and Mass for Knights of Columbus Chromcik Council No. 2574, Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Annunciation No. 1962 and Court Queen of the Holy Rosary No. 2282 will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Plum. Recitation of the Rosary begins at 6:30 p.m., Memorial Service and Mass at 7 p.m., followed by a supper at the parish hall.

Daughters of the American Revolution

The Smith-McMillan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will sponsor a Veteran’s Day poster display on the grounds of the Round Top Courthouse on Friday, Nov. 11. The Smith-McMillan Chapter invites everyone to participate. Locals may create a Veteran’s Day poster on a 1/2 poster board and drop them off at the Round Top Family Library before Nov. 11.

Sealy American Legion

The Sealy American Legion Post 442, located at 1630 Meyer St. (Hwy. 36) in Sealy, has been around now for 100 years. A huge Veteran’s Day weekend celebration is planned. This includes a barbecue cook-off, a motorcycle ride (100 miles), bands including Sonny Rice and the Hall of Famers on Friday, Nov. 11 and John Steel and the Texas Strong Band on Nov. 12. A bounce house for the kids will be available. A live auction will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12. Highlight item for the auction is a 1947 Ford N8 Tractor, fully restored.
