Burn Gets Out of Control in Ledbetter

Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Department put out a small fire that got out of control Tuesday morning, Sept. 27. The call came in around 10:30 a.m. A property owner on FM 1291 in the Ledbetter area was burning a pile of old wooden fence posts. The fire spread to surrounding grass and brush. Ledbetter VFD responded with two grass trucks, a tanker, a tanker and five firefighters. They quickly put out the flames.

Buccaneer Band Experience Held at Blinn

More than 150 band students from area high schools had the opportunity to perform with the Blinn College Buccaneer Band during halftime of a recent football game at Cub Stadium. As part of the inaugural Buccaneer Band Experience, high school students took part in a day of activities that included joining the Blinn band for its halftime performance during the Blinn-Cisco football game.

Retail sales tax collections are up 32.3% for the first nine months of the year, surpassing virtually every neighboring county. At an Emergency Commissioners Court meeting Thursday an order was signed by County Judge Joe Weber restricting outdoor burning. Residents are warned to refrain from burning anything, including kitchen trash and brush piles.
