Real estate development continues to grow at a fast pace in rural Fayette County. Fayette County inspector Clint Sternadel reported to the Commissioners Court last week that 33 new tracts of land were created in April, which he described as an “average” month.

I heard from a few people who gave up on their vegetable gardens after all the rain last week. I understand the frustration.

Navidad Valley Cattle-Women recently awarded $12,000 to eleven area youth whose futures will impact the beef industry in a big way. All applicants were high school seniors from Fayette, Colorado and Lavaca counties with an interest in agriculture. Their applications reflected how bright the students were, shared civic and church involvement, along with their work ethic and big plans for the future.

As of May 12, total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 564: 300 dogs and 264 cats in need. That’s an increase of 113 dogs and cats over this same time frame in 2022. As of May 12, the shelter has 138 animals in care: 62 dogs/76 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

The Schulenburg/Weimar Area Parents as Teachers (PAT) held their annual Art in the Park event on Saturday, May 6. This Fiesta-themed event was held at Wolters Park in Schulenburg and in conjunction with Turtle Wing Foundation’s Jack Hooper Day at the Park.

Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a proclamation designating the week of May 21-27 as Emergency Medical Services Week in Fayette County. The proclamation recognized the outstanding life-saving work provided by Fayette County’s EMS department. The animal shelter continues to be at maximum capacity. Unfortunately, low adoption rates are a nationwide problem right now.

Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller and Pct. 2 Commissioner Luke Sternadel sent a letter to Magnolia Oil and Gas asking the company to settle a noise complaint from a group of residents near Fayetteville.
