Caroline Cherry participated on the newly formed Flatonia Youth Track. She and her teammates traveled to Waco to compete in the regional track meet being held there. It was a great meet for the entire team. Caroline is one of a number of Flatonia Youth Track team members who qualified to advance on to the State competition.

Caroline is advancing to the State meet in Brownsville at the end of July in the 4x100 meter relay team in the 12 years and younger category. She also competed in the 100 meter dash and placed 5th. Caroline also competed in the long jump. This is a great accomplishment for this young lady and the whole community should be proud to have such a great representative. Caroline’s coaches are Darrell and Amanda Gordon and Sheryl Kosler. What a great activity for youngsters to build strength and character while competing in a wide variety of sports.

Very Hot and Dry

Muldoon has been seeing some very hot and dry conditions lately with temperatures over one hundred almost every day. This has really dried out what moisture was in the ground and cracks are forming. The grass has also taken a beating and is getting crispy and will ignite very easily.

These conditions are why the county enacted a burn ban. It does not take much to set off a fire and the local fire departments have been working overtime. Now is a good time to volunteer, say thanks or make a donation.

Train Clean Up

The train derailment clean up is starting to finish up with the amount of workers getting much smaller and the amount of cars parked along FM 154 getting to be much less. There is still a fair amount of cross ties that are left behind at the time, but the main cars that derailed have been removed. This derailment did bring the rail traffic through Muldoon to a grinding halt.

On Sunday, July 16, the railroad shut down FM 154 at the S curve just north of Muldoon to allow for the repair of that crossing. Hopefully things will get back to more of a normal pace.

Out and About

Martin and Lora Cherry along with their kids Caroline and Mitchell took off for a family adventure recently. They drove over to Georgia to visit Martin’s sister Anne Marie Cherry. While in the area they also went to visit Lora’s Great Aunt Mavis Martin Houser, who is a spry 95 years old. This was the first time Caroline and Mitchell got to meet their great-great-aunt who is still very sharp and mobile. Mavis lives in Marietta, Georgia now with her daughter Mindy and son in law Phillip. The Cherry family had a blast traveling and seeing lots of family along the way.

Completes Program

Nancie Blair’s great granddaughter Valarie Schick graduated from the Wings of Life Recovery program. The ladies at the program learn life skills to deal with difficulties and pressures in their lives through faith and gain strength through God. The program is a part of the Power House Church outreach.

Valarie was able to have her daughter Cadence with her during her stay in Mobile, Alabama while going through the program. It was at the finishing of the program that her grandmother and her mother, Heather Tillerson, drove to Alabama to pick them up and drive them back to Texas to restart their lives. Both Nancie and Heather are very proud of Valarie’s choice to stick out the program and begin a new life.

Great Granddaughter

Devon Boehnke is very excited to welcome yet another great-grandchild, Delilah Rose Zuhn, who was welcomed by Devon’s granddaughter and her husband, Jenny and Aaron Zuhn. Delilah makes Devon’s eighth great grandbaby.

Delilah was born on July 18 and weighed eight pounds and seven ounces. She measured 21 inches long. She is welcomed home by her big sister Charlotte. Devon cannot wait to go see this newest addition to the family.
