Arts for Rural Texas (ARTS) is thrilled to announce the opening of its annual Emerging Artists Competition and Exhibition on Saturday, Aug. 5. The event will take place at the ARTS Ross Gallery, located at 114 N. Live Oak St., Fayetteville. This competition is dedicated to showcasing the exceptional creativity of students in grades 6-12, providing a platform for young talent across Southeast and South Central Texas to shine.

On July 29, the Shared Lutheran Ministry and St. Paul Lutheran Church in La Grange will host an event to benefit Lutherhill: “Dancing Under the Stars.” This will be held at the Hermann Sons Hall in Rutersville starting at 5 p.m. with a fried chicken and sausage meal, free will donation. There will be a live and silent auction along with music by the Back Porch Boys starting at 7 p.m. BYOB and lawn chairs. Dine in is preferred.

The Shiner Gazette A couple was found deceased in their home on Tuesday, July 11, from gunshot wounds. The couple, Earl Hailey, 52, and Anna Marie Hailey had three children, one of which was discovered to be in the residence at the time of the crime.

Community engagement and communication efforts ramped up even more this week, as St. Marks Medical Center Employees continued to offer insight and advice on future plans. In total 125 hours were donated this week.At this point almost every employee and every department has been interviewed and asked for input on future operations. We met with 32 individuals directly related to SMMC and 47 individuals and organizations that are not a part of SMMC representing investors and interested community members. Presentations and details of our business plan were presented to four foundations, five philanthropist. The La Grange City Council hosted HCOE as an agenda item for an update and a question and answer time. HCOE’s Sam Wilson met with the Fayette County Judge to answer questions and discuss possible support from the County. HCOE’s Craig Moreau met with four local mayors. Local government remains helpful and informative as past and present elected officials lent advice and insight to operations.

La Grange’s beloved dog catcher Dean Ahlschlager will retire as the City’s animal control officer at the beginning of next year. Ahlschlager said work has been pretty routine lately when the Record caught up with him this week.
