Half Million in Bathroom Repairs Approved by LGISD

In the aftermath of Saturday’s failed $90 million bond election, La Grange ISD wasted no time in dealing with one of the bond’s most pressing needs, and will pay for it with maintenance tax note funds.

At Monday night’s specially- called meeting, the School Board accepted a bid for much-needed repair and replacement to the high school 100-wing bathrooms and sewer line for an amount not to exceed $515,500. That work will be done this summer.

Throughout the past semester, the restrooms in the 100 wing of La Grange High School have experienced persistent sewage backups. A diagnostic camera inspection of the sewer line revealed severe pipe degradation and structural collapse throughout the cast iron piping.

Due to these findings, those restrooms were decommissioned for safety and sanitation reasons.

The facilities and maintenance department determined that the only viable long-term solution was a full replacement of the sewer line situated beneath the building’s foundation. Maintenance solicited proposals from three qualified firms to ensure competitive pricine and product viability.

The three companies contacted were:

• Hodges Construction Services - submitted a proposal.

• Weaver & Jacobs Constructors, Inc. - submitted a proposal.

• JLM Contracting - declined to submit a proposal due to inability to meet the schedule requirements.

Hodges Construction’s proposal included a cost of $488,731.09 for the repair and replacement of the sewer line, new toilets and overtime work if necessary to complete on time. This proposal also includes an additional purchase of flooring material from Lincke Floors, Inc. for $13,687.80.

Weaver & Jacobs proposal had a cost of $521,000 with an additional $11,000 for a bond.

The board approved the proposal from Hodges Construction with an amount not to exceed $515,500.
