The Fayette County Firefighter’s Association reports the following calls for the week of July 30-Aug. 5: Medical-8 Structure Fires-2 Accidents-3 Grass Fires-10 Illegal Burn-1.

Communications Tower Proposed in La Grange

American Towers LLC is proposing to construct a 257-foot (overall height) selfsupporting lattice telecommunications tower located at 5401 N US Highway 77, La Grange, Fayette County, Texas (Parcel ID: 33302; 29° 58’ 41.7” N, 96° 52’ 54” W). The tower will be lit with dual red/white medium intensity flash lighting and red flashing side markers (E1 Avian). The tower facility will include an approximately 100-foot by 120-foot by 120-foot (triangular shaped) lease area, the associated easements, and a 30-foot buffer surrounding the proposed lease area.

City of LG Accepting Applications For Tourism Grant Funds

The City of La Grange will be accepting paper applications until September 1, 2023, by 1:00 pm from organizations and individuals for tourism grant funds which are to be used to enhance Historical Restoration, the Preservation of the Arts, and other activities which will increase tourism AND Hotel/Motel usage in La Grange, Texas. Updated Tourism Grant Program Request forms and further details can be obtained from our website at www.cityoflg. com, under Departments, City Secretary, Tourism Grant Program. For any additional questions, please call La Grange City Hall at (979)968-5805. All grant fund applicants will be required to attend a hotel occupancy tax funds training session to be scheduled by city staff later this year.

Ralph ‘Fizzie’ Fisher’s Entertaining Life

Fayette County’s king of Longhorn, buzzard and armadillo performances still wows crowds large and small Ralph Fisher was 13 years old when he landed a bit part in the heartwarming 1961 movie “Tomboy and The Champ.” Ben Johnson was the star of the show being shot in Katy, Texas, near Ralph’s hometown of Barker. The story was about a Texas ranch teenager who won a calf she named The Champ.

The Round Top Family Library has several free programs during the month of August. Yoga in the library is on Mondays at 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. on Wednesdays. Chess Club meets on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. and a Medicare class is offered on Aug. 8 at 2:30 p.m.; FYI presents Don’t be a victim on Aug. 10 at 7 p.m.; and Family Game Day is Aug. 12 at 2 p.m. Pre School storytime is on Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. Communicating to connect class will be held Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. Contact the library for details on all classses and programs at (979) 249-2700 or ilovetoread.org.

Kenmar Residents Shine at Bugle Boy Concert

On a Thursday afternoon in July, nine Kenmar residents took the stage at The Bugle Boy to perform for their family, friends, and caregivers. The concert was the culmination of creative musical workshops led by award winning singersongwriters Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines at the Kenmar Residential Services offices in La Grange. Participants sang their chosen and original songs to a cheering crowd with the assistance of the Bugle Boy’s professional sound engineer Ryan Lee.
