BBQ & Bake Sale

The Juneteenth Committee welcomes all community members to join Saturday, Jan. 13, in honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. At 11 a.m., the group will walk from the Fayette County Courthouse to the Fayette Public Library Gazebo as a show of unity. After a short program, refreshments will be served. Transportation back to the courthouse will be provided.

The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a barbecue and the women will hold a bake sale Saturday, Jan. 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken $6 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Mini Horse Helpers.

Bingo for Seniors

Bingo for Seniors 60 and older plus guests at the Ledbetter Community Center will be held Sunday, Jan. 14 from 2-4 p.m. Doors open at 1:15 p.m. $5/card covers all games with prizes awarded for each game. Chips, snacks and drinks available for free-will donation. Money collected will be used for purchase of prizes and other expenses. Feel free to call (979) 249-2175 if you have any questions.

Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

The annual homemade chicken noodle soup and bake sale will be Sunday, Jan. 14, at the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, Hostyn, from 9-11 a.m. and at the Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Plum, from 11-11:30 a.m. This event is sponsored by KJZT No. 23 to benefit C.R.E.W., the youth service group of the parishes. Reserve your soup by calling the Parish Office (979) 247-4441, ext 2. Soup is $7.50 per quart.

AMEN Holiday Hours

The AMEN Food Pantry will be closed Monday, Jan. 15 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and will distribute food Tuesday, Jan. 16 at normal hours.

Fayette Water Supply Meeting

Fayette Water Supply Corporation will be conducting a meeting of the board of directors on Monday, Jan. 15 at 4:30 p.m. at the FWSC office located at 200 Bordovsky Road in La Grange. All members are encouraged to attend.

Garbage Holiday Schedule La Grange City offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 15 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Waste Management will be working their normal garbage schedule. If you need additional information, call (979) 968-3127.

VFW Post 5254, Auxiliary to Meet A light meal and meetings will be held by the Fayette Memorial VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the VFW Post Home at the Fairgrounds in La Grange. Meeting time for the VFW Auxiliary is 5 p.m.; light meal will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the VFW Post meeting. New potential members are invited to attend.

NLMC Pioneer Club 1st-5th Grades New Life Methodist Church located at 1215 N. Von Minden in La Grange invites children 1st through 5th grades to join for fun with Jesus through the Pioneer Club, the Wednesday after school program from 3:45-5:30 p.m. (parent pickup) beginning Jan. 17. Cost is $10 per semester (scholarships available) to cover transportation available from local schools. Children will participate in Bible lessons, games, recreation, crafts and a great music program. A delicious snack is also provided. NewLife Youth Group 6th-12th Grades New Life Methodist Church located at 1215 N. Von Minden in La Grange invites youth in 6th through 12th grade to join for an amazing Youth Group opportunity on Wednesdays from 6 until 8 p.m. beginning Jan. 17. Youth will participate in Bible studies, great fellowship, games, group trip experiences and mission opportunities. A delicious dinner is provided. Parkinson’s Support Group

The Fayette County Parkinson’s Support Group will hold their January meeting on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center. Anyone who has been diagnosed as having or perhaps has a personal interest in this progressive disease is welcome to attend. Topics that may be discussed include a set of eating utensils that make chasing food around a plate much easier and less frustrating. We will also look at some new developments being encouraged through research. All attendees will be welcomed.

La Grange Noon Lions Club

The La Grange Noon Lions Club meets on Thursdays at noon at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club. Guest speakers for January are as follows: Thursday, Jan. 18, Laura Vestal and Diane Supak will be talking about Occupational Therapy and Telehealth; Thursday, Jan. 25, Laszlo and Lexi Perlaky will be presenting on “Birding with the Artists’ eye”.

Food Bank Truck

The Central Texas Food Bank truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at the Junction of FM-1291 and FM2145 on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 10-11 a.m. Food distribution will be walk-up method. Volunteers will distribute the food from tables as the clients walk-thru the line making their selections. Every client needs to bring their own sturdy reusable bags, boxes, or plastic tubs. Wagons will be furnished by the Central Texas Food Bank.

Bulk Curbside Pick Up Day The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, Jan. 20 as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick-Up Day for the hard to dispose of bulky items. Waste Management will pick up one free load of bulky items on this day. All items should be within three feet of the curb by Friday evening. Trucks will be starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to pick up items for La Grange Utility customers. Bulk items include: stoves, refrigerators and air conditioners which have been tagged and certified as being “freon free” by a licensed technician, microwaves, water heaters, washing machines/ dryers, barbeques, mattresses, chairs, recliners, couches and other furniture. Bulk items not accepted: tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, tile/toilets/bath tubs, mirrors/glass, cinder blocks/ bricks/rocks, construction debris, televisions/computer monitors, motor oil or used filters. Round Top Lodge Meeting

Round Top Lodge will meet at the Round Top American Legion Hall on Thursday, Jan. 25. Social hour at 6 p.m. and meeting at 6:30 p.m. Steak and sausage will be provided for the meal and members are asked to bring side dishes or desserts.

One of the purposes of this recital is to expose students and the surrounding community to a variety of high quality repertoire on varying instruments. This recital is free and open to the public and will feature Anthony Allen on percussion and Alexander Busby on woodwinds with pianist Tim Smale. The recital will be held on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. in the CHS Auditorium.

The Fayette County Republican Party will host three Republican Candidate Forums covering the five contested races in Fayette County, along with the State House District 85 and US Congressional District 10 races. Vietnam Veterans Meeting

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.

Loss of a Child Support Group

Beyond Grief Series

Feed The Need

Feed the Need, a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually, will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in La Grange at the south east corner of the courthouse square. Everyone is welcome.

Grief Group

Hospice Brazos Valley is offering an Anticipatory Grief group. This is a monthly support group for caregivers of loved ones who have a terminal or chronic diagnosis.
