LG Man Survives Motorcycle Crash at 120+ MPH

A local man endured serious injuries in a motorcycle crash on US 77 south of La Grange on Saturday, Jan. 6.

The wreck happened around 3:37 p.m. Corporal Patrick Mladenka of the Texas Highway Patrol investigated the crash. Mladenka said the motorcycle, a black 2008 Suzuki GSXR1000, was driven by 33-year-old Mason Reves of La Grange. He said several motorists reported the bike driving recklessly at an extremely high speed heading north on US 77.

Reves lost control of the bike as he crested a hill near Peter Rainosek Loop. Mladenka said Reves flew off the motorcycle. Both he and the Suzuki slid about 1,000 feet on the roadway. The bike rolled end over end and came to rest in the ditch on the west side of the road. Reves slid into the shoulder on the east side of the road.

No one witnessed the crash, but Mladenka said he believes the motorcycle was traveling approximately 120 to 140 miles per hour based on how far the motorcycle slid on the highway. He said the motorcycle possibly went airborne as it crested the hill, which may have caused Reves to lose control. Reves survived the crash. He was wearing a helmet, which Mladenka said likely saved his life. Fayette County EMS transported Reves to St. David’s Hospital in South Austin with serious injuries. He was still hospitalized as of Monday, Jan. 8.
