In a way of providing important information to our members and community at large, we sure enjoyed the presentation on Tuesday evening from Brian Slay, the representative from MASA, an ambulance coverage provider. He came and met with us at Robert’s in Flatonia at 6 p.m. and gave us a most informative presentation of the facts and figures on the benefits of joining the membership they offer. Throughout the hour and a half long presentation, he explained all the benefits and then showed us the packages that might fit our budgets.

Brian answered everyone’s questions and we felt privileged to hear all this directly from a representative and not just what other people thought about the membership. In these days and times, especially around here with hospitals closing and the services we need being further away, Brian brought a refreshing but realistic slant on things.

He stressed that everything he was presenting to us on that particular night, will change. Prices will go up. The cost for any type of ambulance service is going to go up, and he reminded us that most often when we need to be transported to a hospital, we may not be the one making the decisions. It was a sobering reality, but he was right. So, decisions need to be made, family discussions need to be had, and Brian said he can come back in a few months to speak to more people and to be available to current members.

We want to give a shout out to the Senior Connections men members, Ruben Rodriguez, an American Legion member, donated about 10 tickets to their drive through dinner next month, and we are so grateful for his kind gesture. Those tickets become Bingo Prizes and our members really look forward to winning them. They are gifted as a pair, so you can treat a friend too. Clarence Ahlschlager was the Shiner Blackout winner and he won a pair of the tickets, but he donated them back, so the game went on. Clarence is one of our board members and he wanted someone else to win them. The pair of tickets was won by Julian Godsey, who is the leader of the Square/Folk Dance group that is trying to form at Senior Connections.

We encourage you to look at our monthly calendar. There is always something going on. You can even drive by our Center, located in Wolter’s Park, and pick up a copy of the calendar from our outside mailbox, the clear one. Pick a day that you would like to come by and spend some time with us at Senior Connections, bring a friend with you, and come eat lunch with us on a Wednesday, and stay for Bingo. Thank you, again, to everyone who believes in Senior Connections and our mission to serve the elders in our communities.
