Booming Western Wear Company Moving to Downtown Schulenburg

Iron Oak Apparel Company, one of the fastest growing western wear outfitters in the nation, is moving to downtown Schulenburg. The company launched in 2020 with a vision by Schulenburg natives Keith Kruse and Marc Novick to create a “country boy polo shirt” with western designs and pearl snaps instead of buttons.

A standing room-only crowd attended the final political forum of the primary election season hosted by the Fayette County Republican Party. The forum took place Saturday afternoon at the Fayette County Ag Building.

Shelter Update

As of Feb. 9, total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 145: 80 dogs and 65 cats in need. As of Feb. 9, the shelter has 81 animals in care: 47 dogs/34 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport.

American History Essay Contest Winners Announced

The Smith-McMillan chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors various events throughout the year to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Two such events are the American History Essay Contest which is open to students in grades 5-8 and the Patriots of the American Revolution DAR High School Essay Contest which is open to students in grades 9-12. Students may attend public, private, or parochial schools, as well as homeschooling.

Vasek Celebrates 90th Birthday

Evelyn Vasek celebrated her 90th birthday with a party Saturday at Care Inn with family and friends. Everyone enjoyed cake and reminiscing with the birthday girl. Her actual birthday is Tuesday, Feb. 13.
