Black History Month Event Held in Schulenburg

The Schulenburg Black History Month Celebration took place on Saturday, Feb. 24. The Celebration began with a big parade that traveled from downtown to the Schulenburg KC Hall, where attendees enjoyed a Black History Month program and barbecue dinner.

The Round Top Family Library’s Junior Master Gardeners and Round Top Lions are sponsoring a food drive. Items needed are canned foods,white sugar, flour, rice and beans and boxed goods-cereal, macaroni and cheese, dry milk, stuffing mix, potatoes, jello and pudding. Boxes are locted at the Round Top Family Library, Round Top State Bank, and Round Top Coffee Shop. Donations will be collected until Feb. 29.

Animal Shelter Update

As of Feb. 16, the total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 170: 99 dogs and 71 cats in need. As of Feb. 16, the shelter has 88 animals in care: 53 dogs/35 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

The shelter offers a discount voucher program to the citizens of Fayette County for the spay/neuter of family pets. Call (979) 966-0021 for more information.

Berger Withdraws From Election

The City of Schulenburg won’t have a contested election after all. Two candidates had applied to run for Place 5 on the City Council ahead of the filing deadline last Friday: Kathy Kleiber and Jake Berger.
