Happy Music For Happy People Sunday, May 19

Board members of The Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum, located at 275 W. Fairgrounds Rd., La Grange, Texas in the Czech Village, are excited to invite members and the public to the Second Annual “Happy Music for Happy People” Open House and Event. Renovations and upgrades continue; this would be the time to check them out.

The event is in conjunction with the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center’s (TCHCC) Slavnost “May Fest” celebration. The museum will open on Sunday, May 19 at 10 a.m. and will conclude at 4 p.m.

An attraction of the day will be a booth for wine tasting.“Happy Music for Happy People” from 2 to 4 p.m. by Majek Vineyard and Winery hosted by Randy and Lynne Majek, winery owners and operators. Highlighted inside the museum will be The Father Joseph M. Hybner Exhibit.

In 2005 the Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum (PCTM) moved the Hoelscher Haus, a donation from Esther & Henry Hoelscher, to the TCHCC complex to serve as the museum for the Po.L.K. of A. Texas Chapter. Father Joe gave donations of $500 each in memory of his parents and grandparents from both sides. Every year since 2006 PLCTM hosted a memorial celebration remembering the deceased members of the museum and the Po. L. K. of A. Texas Chapter. The event included a slide show presentation of all deceased members. Afterwards, Father Jo would conduct a Polka Mass accompanied by a polka band, a catered meal for members and a polka dance. He stayed very active and involved in the annual activities.

Father Joe was a generous contributor in all fundraising campaigns; therefore, the Museum Board, at that time, felt it very appropriate to name the new annex “The Msgr. Joseph M. Hybner Center.”

The dedication held on Sunday, February 28, 2016, included a reception with Father Hybner concluding the event with a ribbon cutting and a blessing of the The Center.

Reverend Monsignor Joseph Hybner, 83, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019. He was born November 11, 1936, in Shiner, one of the 9 children born to Leo and Josephine (Kurtz) Hybner.

He is buried in the Saints Cyril and Methodist Catholic Cemetery in Shiner, Texas, Lavaca County, Texas, Plot 2-B19-1.

The Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum is located at 275 W. Fairgrounds Rd., La Grange, Texas with a mission to preserve, promote and educate polka music and dance. For more information go to plctm.com.
