Attention and Money Flow in Local House Race

The race to represent District 85 in the Texas House is attracting a lot of attention – and money. The incumbent, Stan Kitzman, has raised more than a half-million dollars for his re-election campaign, according to Ballotpedia.org.

A Trip to State – 81 Years in the Making

For the first time since 1943, an 81-year-drought, the Fayetteville boys basketball team is heading back to the state tournament after knocking off Wells and Brookeland in the regional tournament over the weekend. The Lions will play Jayton in the state semifinals Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Alamodome.

County Groups Join Forces to Help Victims of Panhandle Wildfires

When there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved – a quote by Mattie Stepanek – is the thought behind a partnership between Arts for Rural Texas, Round Top Family Library, Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter, Stanzel Foundation, and Fayette Community Foundation, who have all come together to help people impacted by the recent devastating wildfires in the Texas Panhandle.

Veterans Hold Dignified Retirement for Old Flags

On Wednesday, February 28, The American Legion Post 102 of La Grange conducted a Flag Retirement Ceremony for 509 United States and Texas State Flags deemed “unservicable” by the Post Commander. The ceremony is conducted as part of the overall effort to help our community maintain proper US Flag presentations on Veteran graves, and homes and businesses. The small flag on the glove (pictured) is included to show that even the smallest Flag gets a dignified place in the ceremony.

The La Grange Chamber is hosting a free networking meeting on Wednesday, March 6 from 10-11 a.m. at the La Grange Chamber of Commerce office located at 220 W. Colorado St. in La Grange. The speaker will be Heather Barthelme from the Fayette County Community Theatre.

Animal Shelter Update

As of Feb. 23, total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 191: 108 dogs and 83 cats in need. As of Feb. 23, the shelter has 77 animals in care: 51 dogs/26 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.
