Bastrop’s city council went on record as favoring moving the joint City of Austin-Lower Colorado River Authority coal-fired electric generating plant site from Fayette County to the Camp Swift property in Bastrop County. Bastrop officials were interested in having the plant near their town because of the economic and recreational benefits. Mayor James Sharp, who said there were two highways, railroad spurs and the Colorado River near Camp Swift, sought a meeting with Austin Mayor Butler to discuss this possibility.

Two well-known Fayette County citizens were named outstanding senior citizens of 1974 at the sixth annual Senior Citizens Fair at City Hall in La Grange. They were Mrs. T.J. (Gladys) Flournoy, the wife of Fayette County Sheriff T.J. Flournoy, a prominent civic worker, and C.W. Meyer of Schulenburg, a retired businessman and active community worker.

Local Green Thumb Program employees were constructing a new exhibit hall for the 1974 Fayette County Fair. The 48x100-foot structure would more than double the exhibit space available. The fair association was paying for the materials.

Army Private William J. Roensch, 20, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Roensch, completed eight weeks of basic infantry training at the U.S. Army Training Center in Fort Polk, La.

Darlene Weyand, a Fayetteville High School senior, placed first in the University Interscholastic League shorthand contest in Austin to emerge as the state champion among Class B school students. Another Fayetteville senior, Sharon Pfughaupt, who took part in the same contest, placed sixth.

The 22 graduating seniors from Round Top-Carmine High School planned a class trip to Woodcreek at Wimberley, north of San Marcos, on May 23 and 24. They were to be accompanied by their class sponsor.

Marvin Marburger registered 13 strikeouts Wednesday night in pitching Round Top-Carmine to a 7-1 victory over the Yankees in Little League action in La Grange. Gerry Banik hit a triple and Scott Schultz, Stuart Bruchey and Marburger all poked doubles to lead the 13-hit Round Top-Carmine team attack.

Paul Kleiber of Kleiber Ford Tractor, Inc. was awarded a plaque from Ford Tractor’s new Dealership Service Excellence Program. The presentation recognized the Kleiber dealership’s superior customer service, shop safety, service technician-certified training, accounting records and qualified service management.

Five members of the Sacred Heart CCD class made their first Holy Communion at Sacred Heart Church on Sunday morning at the 10 a.m. Mass. They were: Michelle Freedman, Michelle Stevenson, Laurie Bartek, Steven Schultz and Scott Willrich. They marched into the church in procession with their parents and then joined them for communion.

Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph I. Kaderka observed their 25th wedding anniversary on Sunday, May 5, with relatives and friends at a dinner and open house in the cafeteria of Christ the King Catholic Church in Houston. Rudolph Kaderka and Lillie Novak were married by the Rev. Frank Matustik on May 2, 1949, in St. John’s Catholic Church in Fayetteville.

A funeral service was held for Mrs. Edna Koehl, 64, of La Grange.

Theresa Ann Janacek, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Janacek of La Grange, received a bachelor of science in education degree from the School of Education at Southwest Texas State University.

Marie Wolle of Carmine received a bachelor of arts degree in physical education from William Penn College, Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Otto Legler was reelected commander of the American Legion Post No. 102, his 15th consecutive term. Other officers were: Leon Reeder, first vice commander; Herbert Oppermann, second vice commander; George Hajovsky, adjutant; J.D. Leger, financial officer; Ernest Kallus, chaplain; Edgar F. Schulz, sergeant-at-arms; Fritz Lobpries, historian; Frank Pratka, service officer; Clarence Schwake, child welfare; and John D. Marburger, judge advocate.
