David Koether is One Happy Knapper

Creating Arrowheads gives this Fayette County Resident Satisfaction and a Deeper Appreciation for our Country’s Aboriginal History David Koether shapes small pieces of solid rock to create arrowheads, which makes him a knapper. After finding a couple of arrowheads on land that he and his wife, Gesine, own northeast of La Grange, he had the urge to search for others.
David Koether makes arrowheads employing a hands-on process called knapping. He’s always interested in seeing real ones that have been found locally and enjoys searching creeks for the fascinating artifacts, with landowners’ permission, of course.

The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a barbecue and the women will hold a bake sale Saturday, March 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken $6 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of Turtle Wing Foundation.

For the first time since 1943, an 81-year-drought, the Fayetteville boys basketball team is heading back to the state tournament after knocking off Wells and Brookeland in the regional tournament over the weekend. The Lions will play Jayton in the state semifinals Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Alamodome.

Janssen Animal Shelter, Stanzel Foundation, and Fayette Community Foundation, who have all come together to help people impacted by the recent devastating wildfires in the Texas Panhandle.

Veterans Hold Dignified Retirement for Old Flags

On Wednesday, February 28, The American Legion Post 102 of La Grange conducted a Flag Retirement Ceremony for 509 United States and Texas State Flags deemed “unservicable” by the Post Commander. The ceremony is conducted as part of the overall effort to help our community maintain proper US Flag presentations on Veteran graves, and homes and businesses. The small flag on the glove (pictured) is included to show that even the smallest Flag gets a dignified place in the ceremony.
