MS 150 Rolls Through County This Weekend

The 40th annual MS 150 will have starts in Houston and Austin with all riders ending up in La Grange at the Fayette County Fairgrounds this weekend for the first night. The ride is scheduled for April 27-28. Three years ago, the route was changed so that Austin riders start in Austin, Houston riders start in Houston and everyone meets in La Grange for the Saturday night stay. They are expecting approximately 5,700 riders, which is down from the early years due to the pandemic and years of challenging weather.

The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center spring meeting/luncheon will be held at the Randolph Recreation Center, 653 E. Pearl St. in La Grange on Thursday, April 25. Registration will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Cash door prizes will be awarded to ten lucky attendees who have registered by 10:30 a.m. The meeting starts at 10:30 a.m. Guest speaker will be Jack Thompson, the new La Grange City Manager. Lunch consisting of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, broccoli salad, glazed carrots, dinner roll and banana pudding will be served at 11:30 a.m. for $5. Membership fees of $5 for the year for current members will also be collected. For more information contact Marilyn Strmiska at (979) 247-4090. Members may also sign up for a day trip to the Chisholm Trail Museum scheduled for Wednesday, May 15. Information on planned Game Days will also be available.

Packed House Hears About Painting on Quilts

It was a full house on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at The Texas Quilt Museum. Quilt fans came from near and far for another free Gallery Talk: “The Secrets of Painted Threads.”

Guests enjoyed hearing the stories and watching renowned quilt artist, Sherri Lipman McCauley demonstrate her methods of painting on fabric for her art quilts.

Seniors Power Lady Leps to 15-0 Win in Regular Season Finale

In their final regular season home game, La Grange’s senior softball players put on a show as they smashed Giddings 15-0 Tuesday. La Grange senior Marissa Gonzales drove in Kylin Brawley to put the Lady Leps up by 15 in the bottom of the fourth inning to enact the mercy rule and end the game early.

FEC Pole Inspections Begin Monday

Exo’s Utility Services Division will start steel pole inspections for Fayette Electric Cooperative beginning Monday, April 22. The EXO crews will be driving gray Ford 150 pickups with the EXO logo displayed on them.

Once again the La Grange School Board meeting began with commentary on the concern for book purchases, only this time the majority of the speakers were commenting on the need to allow the librarians to do their job and choose books that are appropriate for the age and reading level of the students.
