County Animal Control Officer Rear-Ended Wednesday

Fayette County Animal Control Officer Dean Ahlschlager got rear-ended in an auto accident Wednesday, July 24. The crash happened shortly before 10 a.m.

Ahlschlager was driving his Fayette County Animal Control pickup west on Travis St. in La Grange just east of the Colorado River Bridge. He was stopped behind a vehicle turning left into the boat ramp under the bridge. A beige 2011 Ford Escape failed to stop and struck the rear of Ahlschlager’s County truck.

The driver of the escape told police officers that she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal. Fayette County EMS arrived and checked both drivers for injuries. The driver of the Escape suffered some pain in her chest from hitting the steering wheel. Ahlschalger was not injured.

Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the crash. La Grange Volunteer Fire Department, La Grange Police Department and Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies assisted at the scene.
