Burglars Hit Country Store at O’Quinn

The O’Quinn Store on FM 609 was hit by burglars sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning. Sheriff’s officers said $20 in quarters, $3 in nickels, and three cartons of cigarettes were missing. Entry was gained by smashing a window at the rear of the store owned by Paul (Jack) Korenek.

LHS Holds Academic Recognition Banquet

La Grange ISD hosted its annual Academic Recognition Banquet Wednesday at the Casino Hall. The event recognizes the Top 12-percent of graduating seniors and allows each of those students to select a special teacher to honor during the banquet. As each duo took the stage, Master of Ceremonies Peggy Supak read thoughts from the student about the teacher and thoughts from the teacher about the student. Gretchen Kuck, a 2016 LHS grad, who is now a agricultural economist in Washington D.C. told the grads to “value the things you have to offer... your different perspective is incredibly valuable.”

Zilss Hall Receives New Sign

W Cemetery Decoration Day The annual Winchester Cemetery Decoration luncheon will not be held this year. Members of the association should send their annual dues to Winchester Cemetery Association, 8315 FM 153.
Zilss Hall received a new sign thanks to Margaret and Tom Atkins. The sign is located in front of Zilss Hall at the corner of Hwy 153 and Memorial Drive in Winchester.

LGISD Hits Maximum Incoming Transfers

Superintendent Andy McHazlett reported that the current enrollment sits at 1,922 which is 21 above the same time last year. The current attendance for the district stands at 94.48% with ADA (average daily attendance) numbers at 1,787. This number is what determines the amount of funding the district gets from the state. He also told the board that the district is at capacity for transfer students, which means that some students who did not live in the district and applied had to be turned down for this year.
