American Legion Auxiliary Awards Scholarships

The American Legion Auxiliary, H.J. Ehlers Unit 102 in La Grange, is a community of Volunteers serving the Veterans and Military and their families. Besides advocating for Veterans, they promote Patriotism and Americanism, demonstrate compassion and respect for those who serve our Country and Protect our Freedoms, and sponsor youth programs, most notably the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program and Scholarships in local school systems. The Unit and Post held their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 8, at the VFW Home in La Grange. The Auxiliary members were honored to have their two Scholarship recipients, Jill Newton and Reece Nygren, and their families in attendance. Each recipient was presented a $500 scholarship to further their education to their institution of choice. This took place at 6 p.m. and was followed with a catered meal and then the Auxiliary and Post held their meetings.

Texas Women’s League Gives Out $54,000 in Grants

The Texas Women’s League presented $54,000 in grants to 27 local organizations in a ceremony at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center last Wednesday, May 8. Each organization recieved $2,000. Pictured below are the recipients, with the exception of a few that were unable to attend. Not pictured are Elevate Student Ministry at Crosspoint Community Church, Faith Lutheran High School, Family Crisis Center, Fixpatrick’s Garage Foundation, Senior Connections of Schulenburg, Round Top Festival Institute, Round Top Library Association, Stevens Chapel United Methodist Church and the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center. Lisa Johnson a Chef Competition Finalist

On May 20 the voting started for Celebrity Chef Carla Hall 2024 “Favorite Chef” competition. La Grange native Lisa Johnson is finalist for the award and is hoping to get the support from her family, friends and classmates to vote for her to be in this grand event.
