The 97th annual Fayette County Fair completed its fourday run Sunday as thousands of folks enjoyed the festivities amidst cooler than normal weather and lots of live music, headlined by Lonestar Saturday and Rick Trevino Sunday. The fair kicked off on Thursday evening with the crowning of the new Royalty Court.

A temporary restraining order was filed last week to stop the sale of City of Refuge Holiness Church in Round Top. Early last month the Record reported that the church was listed for sale at $2.2 million.

The Fayette County Jail closed in-person visitation for inmates until further notice. Lt.

Faison Preservation Society has contracted Precision Levelling LLC of La Grange to repair and improve the foundation piers and beams of Faison House at 822 Jefferson St. – historic home of Nathaniel Faison located across from the Fayette Public Library. Their expert skills have secured the stability of our historic home, allowing it to last for years to come. Next the society brought in Orkin to control the pests who moved in. Their treatments, along with hard work performed by the Nicolas Soto and crew who raised the lattice skirt circling the house, will keep the pesky pests at bay. Now that the structure is ready, the society can replace the wallpaper, using the historically appropriate process . The wall coverings became damaged over time by structural movement, moisture and those invading pests.

At the recent 2024 National Safety Council event for the Poultry Industry in Destin, Florida, Perdues Schulenburg Plant in Texas was honored with the prestigious Award of Distinction, the highest safety honor awarded by the Council. In all, five Perdue Food processing facilities and seven additional facilities received the Award of Distinction, the most awards of any Member Company.

Earlier this summer we announced the business and civic winners of The Fayette County Record’s annual Readers’ Choice Best of Fayette County contest. La Grange ISD Superintendent Andy McHazlett presented certificates to each winner at the elementary, middle, and high school campus at the beginning of the school year.

Folks in La Grange are supposed to register their dogs and cats with the City and pay a fee. If you didn’t know that, you’re not the only one.

La Grange is mourning the loss of a local man and trying to help his family with funeral expenses. Luis Baltazar Hernandez passed away Aug.
