Altar Society Meets

The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Oct. 7 in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports provided by the treasurer, secretary and assistant treasurer. One card of thanks was read to members in appreciation for remembrances received. Nine ladies attended the meeting.

The Spirituality Report provided by Marian Tajchman was given by Karen Janda. October is recognized as the Month for Life and members were reminded that Baby Banks will be available in the back of church to support various Pro-Life projects of the church and Diocese. Notable October dates include Oct. 7 which is the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary and Oct. 13 which celebrates Deacon Sunday. It was also noted that First Friday Adoration had been changed from Oct. 4 to Oct. 11.

Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek spoke about tentative plans to hold a Mass for All Souls Day at the cemetery this year beginning at 8:30 a.m on Saturday Nov. 2. She also reported that an order had been placed for new altar veil and burse sets to match each liturgical season and briefly spoke about the possible need for new vestments. It was reported that Peggy Sulik and member volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.

Under the Service Commission, April Feray reported on the Enrollments received by the Clerical Endowment Fund during the month of September. No get-well cards had been sent during the previous month, however names were suggested for cards to be sent to members currently in need. Karen Janda gave the financial report of the Parish Council of Catholic Women provided by Judy Langhamer and reported that no funeral lunches had been hosted during the previous month.

Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that five new members had been approved by Father Chris since the last meeting. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record.

Under unfinished business. members were reminded that the next ECCW meeting will be in Ellinger on Oct. 22. The next social after Mass to be hosted by the Altar Society members will be Sunday, Nov. 3. Earline was asked to oversee set up on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Trish Pechal volunteered to order kolaches and pigs. Members are asked to assist with serving and clean up as needed.

Under new business, April spoke about the Patriotic Rosary that will be recited on Saturday Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. for the state of our nation. It was noted that Nov. 3 is Father Chris’ birthday and discussion was held regarding a gift to honor his special day. Doris Lidiak spoke briefly about the cookies for the homebound project hosted jointly by the Altar Society and CDA members. The event will be held on Dec. 9 this year and all are welcome to participate.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, Nov. 4 at 5:45 p.m.
