La Grange Little Leaguers Capture District Trophy

Superb pitching and timely hitting paid off for the La Grange Little LeagueAll-Stars in Yoakum as they sacked up the district championship with a 10-2 victory over Brenham. Greg Trlicek throttled Brenham’s powerful batters. Of La Grange’s six hits, three were doubles, driving across two runs each. Marvin Marburger scored two of the doubles.
Amos Pavlik of La Grange was elected as the first president to serve as a full-time officer of the KJT at the XXXI General Convention at the Shamrock-Hilton Hotel in Houston. Mr. Pavlik had worked with the state KJT since 1938 when he was elected assistant secretary and, in 1941, state secretary, a post he still held at the time of his promotion

Some Trips To The Moon Included Lunch in La Grange

We were all saddened to learn about the tragic death of Bill Anders, La Grange’s “Astronaut,” on June 7th of this year. His Father A. G. and his Uncle Edger “Smiles”Anders, were co-owners of Hermes Drug Store, on the courthouse square. This is the story of how that drug store and its delivery boy (me), got involved with NASA”s astronaut training program.

LEO Club Students Give Time Capsule to Archives

At Thursday’s La Grange Noon Lions Club meeting, the junior version of the Lions Club, the LEO Club, gave an update on several of their activities from the past school year. They also donated a time capsule they made and collected items for to Rox Ann Johnson of the Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives. Johnson was going to keep the time capsule in the archives for safe-keeping until the kids decided to open it at a to-be-determined future date. The time capsule (emptied out below) included everything from magazines, covid masks, eclipse glasses, an old cell phone, friendship bracelets and more. The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe

Here are some images from the shows, which were performed Friday, Saturday and Sunday before hundreds each day at the La Grange ISD Performing Arts Center. There was a prequel show each night called “Narnia Storybook” written by local student Jackson Elliott, followed by the more traditional play based on the classic novel by C.S.

Early Cotton Gins Program Coming to Library On Aug. 8

The Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives invites you to an evening focused on the cotton stories and history of Fayette and Washington Counties. Steph Jarvis, director of the Texas Cotton Gin Museum, will share the history of the Burton Farmers Gin and talk about their exciting project to map local cotton gins. Come be part of this important effort to preserve the cotton history that is woven into our community.
This unidentified cotton gin is believed to have been located in Fayette County. Please contact the Fayette Heritage Museum & Archives at (979) 968-3765 and ask for Rox Ann or email archives@cityoflg.com if you recognize it.

FEC, New GM Welcome Members to Annual Meeting

Fayette Electric Cooperative opened the doors of the Knights of Columbus Community Center in La Grange to a flood of its members at 5:30 p.m. on July 17, eagerly awaiting fellowship with their neighbors, news about their co-op and the chance to win some fun prizes at the co-op’s 87th annual meeting.
New Fayette EC General Manager Doug Lambert began his tenure on July 1.
