The 4K Little Saints traveled to the Jersey Barnyard for their fall field trip. They enjoyed feeding the goats and sheep out of their hands, bottle feeding a baby calf, going on a hay ride to see how the cows are milked and they even had the opportunity to milk a cow. They enjoyed taking pictures in the pumpkin patch, having a picnic lunch under the trees and ending the trip with ice cream for dessert. Turtle Wing, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, continues to serve hundreds of families who have children with learning challenges, connecting them with the needed services to be successful, helping them afford those services, and creating new opportunities. Last year, over 340 individuals and their families received services funded by Turtle Wing, ranging from speech therapy to afterschool art class. The Turtle Wing Foundation funded over 3,300 sessions of therapy, over 400 tutoring sessions, over 1,000 hours of social skills, over 1,600 sessions of afterschool programs, and thousands more hours of Day Hab, Learning Labs, case management, and more.

The La Grange school board held their monthly meeting Monday with plenty on their plate. Here are the highlights: • The meeting started with four people addressing the board during the public comment period.

Mary Jane (Roensch) Bayless- Henning of La Grange, attended a retirement ceremony for her son, Col. Kyle Bayless, in The Netherlands on October 4.

The return of a hospital to La Grange still seems possible, but no closer to a reality after this update from County Judge Dan Mueller: “The future of the building that once housed St. Mark’s Hospital is still in question. A meeting to discuss the future of the building took place at the Fayette County Courthouse on Nov. 8. The meeting was hosted by County Judge Dan Mueller, Court Coordinator Cassie Austin and EMS Director Josh Vandever. State Senator Lois Kolkhorst and her staff and State Representative Stan Kitzman were in attendance along with Jim Cantrell and Alan Carlisle representing Green Jay Capital LLC, the entity that purchased the HUD note. Director Vandever, Senator Kolkhorst, Representative Kitzman and I made it abundantly clear that we want and we need a hospital at that location. At least one group has already expressed an interest in operating a hospital within the facility. Green Jay Capital has stated that they purchased the note as an investment.

St. James Episcopal Preschool and First Light Campus in La Grange hosted their Truck Touch event this week to highlight our community helpers and the services they provide. Vehicles and officers from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and Emergency Medical Services, Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens, La Grange Fire Department and Police Department, and Ewald Kubota of La Grange parked in the lots at both locations so the preschoolers could climb into the trucks, tractors, cars, and boats to see what they do. The children learned what the community helpers do and thanked them for their service with goody bags and handmade cards.
