Cistern Country Store Big Buck Contest Registration Now Open

Register now at the Cistern Country Store for the 59th Adult Big Buck Contest and the 7th Annual Youth Buck Contest. The registration fee is $20 cash per hunter, accepted between Noon and 8 p.m. daily at the Cistern Country Store, located at 12604 N State Hwy. 95, between Smithville and Flatonia at FM 2237.

Fayette Co. Soil, Water, Hay Testing Begins Oct. 9

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Fayette County is conducting a soil, water, and hay testing campaign from Oct. 9-30. This program is being held in conjunction with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Fayette County, Fayette County Commissioner’s Court, and the Fayette County Groundwater Conservation District.

LG Citizens On Patrol Sept. Report

The La Grange Citizens on Patrol reports the following activities for the month of September: Patrols - 1 Patrol Hours - 5.5 Miles Logged - 6.9 Tickets - 0 Warnings - 0 Classes for those interested in joining Citizens on Patrol continue every Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at the courtroom behind the La Grange Police Station. Anyone is welcome to attend.

Shelter Update

As of Sept. 27, the total intake for 2024 for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 1272: 564 dogs and 708 cats in need. As of Sept. 27, the shelter has 113 animals in care: 40 dogs and 73 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

Medicare Enrollment Programs Being Offered in La Grange & Schulenburg

Medicare Open Enrollment can be confusing. To answer questions on what to do whether you are signing up for the first time or re-signing up for the 2024 year attend one of the two “Medicare 1 on 1” workshops being offered by the Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area and hosted by Fayette County Committee on Aging, Schulenburg Regency Retirement Villas, and the Fayette County AgriLife Extension office.

Bellville Little League Fundraising Vice President Indicted For Theft

The Austin County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) reports that a Bellville woman was arrested for allegedly stealing more than $10,000 from the Bellville Little League. The report said allegations were first reported to the Bellville Police Department, but due to the facts surrounding this case, the ACSO Criminal Investigation Division, in coordination with the Austin County District Attorney, took over the investigation.

The Bluebonnet Master Gardener Lunch-N-Learn educational program is a series of 9 informational meetings designed to provide gardening or general landscaping information for homeowners. Fayette County Master Gardeners plan and present a variety of programs from experts in the area and across the state. This series is designed with the homeowner in mind; bring your lunch and learn about a variety of topics that help you have a more productive garden, prettier flower beds, or how to better understand your landscape ecosystems.
