LHS Book Fair

Library Open House

The Book Fair will start on Monday, Dec. 9-13 at the La Grange High School Library. Times are Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Visitors must check in at the La Grange High School Office. The library will again be partnering with the Deputy Santa Program to assist in providing new books for the children.

Tis the season at the Fayette Public Library. Join for our annual Christmas Open House on Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Enjoy Christmas Music played on our beautiful piano, good food, and great company. Santa will also join for pictures from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. so bring your camera and your wish list. We love our community and our patrons. Legion, Auxiliary

TheAmerican Legion Post and Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will host their annual Christmas Party on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fair Grounds in La Grange. Come join us for an evening of fellowship and food. The social hour will begin at 5 p.m. followed by a catered meal served at 6 p.m. The Post and Unit members and their spouse/guest are invited to attend this festive event honoring and thanking our Veterans for their service to our Country.

Christmas Cantata

Free Christmas Cantata, “Suddenly Light” will be performed by the combined choirs and instrumentalists of New Life Methodist and St. James’ Episcopal churches. Readings and anthems recounting the Gospels from the point of view of Joseph’s mother. Two opportunities: Sunday, Dec. 15, 9 a.m. at New Life Methodist, 1215 N Von Minden, and 3 p.m. at St. James’ Episcopal, 156 N Monroe.

For the Record on Page A2 & A5 Hospice Brazos Valley will have no Loss of a Child grief support group in December. There will be no support groups in the month of January 2025. Please call to find out if there will be any support groups in February.

St. Barnabas’s Anglican Church

On Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 4 p.m, St. Barnabas’s Anglican Church, 237 West Austin Street, Bellville, will host an open house, as will other churches on various days this month in Bellville and Industry. Although the open house begins at 4 p.m. members will already have arrived at least by 3:30 p.m., in case any visitors should need to come by earlier than 4 p.m. Guests are also gladly invited to stay for the weekly service of Evensong, which begins at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.

Plum Hermann Sons Life

The Plum Hermann Sons Life 2024 Christmas Party will be held Saturday, Dec. 14 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Prairie Valley Schoolhouse located at 2510 Williams Rd., West Point.All members and their families are welcome.

St. James BBQ & Bake Sale

The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a BBQ and the Women will hold a bake sale Saturday, Dec. 14 from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken is $6 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the La Grange High School Band.

Christmas Caroling in Shelby

The ShelbyArea Historical Society will host Old Time Christmas Caroling on Sunday, Dec. 15 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Bring a flashlight, a blanket for cold weather, and refreshments to share. Meet in the church building on Skull Creek Road in Shelby.

Ellinger Hermann Sons Life

The Ellinger Hermann Sons Life will be meeting on Monday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station.

VFW Post No. 5254, Auxiliary Party La Grange Fayette Memorial VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary members, along with their spouse and immediate family or guest, are invited to the annual Christmas party on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the VFW Post Home. The social begins at 5 p.m. followed by a catered meal at 6 p.m. The program will include presentation of the VFW sponsored Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen winners. There will be a “fun” fundraiser to support the youth programs of the VFW Auxiliary.

Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau Dinner

Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau Christmas dinner and 2024 quarterly meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at the American Legion Hall in Flatonia. Social hour will start at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Charles Zapalac, Justice of Peace, Precinct 3. A short business meeting will follow the Christmas turkey dinner.

Farm Bureau Christmas Party

The Swiss Alp-Ammannsville-Dubina Farm Bureau local will hold their Christmas party at the Swiss Alp-Ammannsville-Dubina Farm Bureau hall. It will be held on Dec. 17 and will start at 6:30 p.m. A potluck meal is being planned, so each family is asked to bring a covered dish and a small dessert. All members are welcome.

Library Christmas Family Movie Night Mark your calendars for a Christmas Family Movie Night at Fayette Public Library. Join them for this fantastic Christmas event on Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 5:30-8 p.m. The event will kick off at 5:30 p.m. outside with live music and cookie decorating, and the movie will start at 6 p.m. in the library meeting room. Due to limited space, only 40 seats are available. The featured movie is The Polar Express, rated G, with a 1 hour and 40 minutes run time. Popcorn and hot chocolate will be provided for the movie, and children will be given a special take-home surprise. Library programs are free and open to the public.
