Each March, the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas celebrates Women’s History Month by recognizing special women in our community. In 2023, the League recognized the eight women serving as mayors of our South Central Texas towns. In 2024, they invited area high school students to recognize women who had touched their lives with poems and essays. In response to these events, many have told the League how important it is to share and celebrate the inspiring stories of local women and their contributions to our communities. These stories too often untold, remind women of today and future generations that their voices and stories are vital to our collective history.

The La Grange City Council authorized the creation of its seventh public facility corporation at their meeting Monday night, Dec. 9.

Representatives from the LaRouche Movement set up a political demonstration in front of the La Grange Post Office on Tuesday, Dec. 10. The movement, started by the late Lyndon LaRouche in the 1960s, espouses an eclectic array of beliefs – ranging from banking reform to the reintroduction of classical Verdi tuning for musical instruments. Lyndon LaRouche was a perennial candidate for President during his lifetime, often running as a Democrat. Members of the movement, John Jambor and Joe Jennings of Houston, said they stopped in La Grange on their way to Austin to speak with the public about ending hostilities between the United States and China and Russia. They displayed signs criticizing President Joe Biden and NATO, praising President-Elect Donald Trump, and calling for an end to the war in Ukraine. “The reception has been good,” Jambor said. “We’re meeting some very good people here.”

The La Grange High School Swim Team made waves this weekend at the TISCA Invitational in Grapevine, competing against nearly 300 athletes. The team’s hard work and dedication were on full display as every swimmer advanced to Saturday’s finals in individual events.
