LHS Swimmers Shine at TISCA Invitational
The La Grange High School Swim Team made waves this weekend at the TISCA Invitational in Grapevine, competing against nearly 300 athletes. The team’s hard work and dedication were on full display as every swimmer advanced to Saturday’s finals in individual events.
Leading the charge were seniors Celeine Fabre and Laney Herdler, both of whom delivered record-breaking performances. Fabre set a new 100-yard freestyle record with a time of 1:03.27, improving the previous record by 1.26 seconds. Herdler outdid herself in the 500-yard freestyle, breaking her own record twice during the meet and shaving a total of 2.05 seconds to set a new mark of 7:13.19.
The relay teams also excelled, posting impressive finishes: Girls 200 Medley Relay: 3rd place (Celeine Fabre, Adysen Janacek, Hope Michalke, Eleanor Carey) Girls 200 Freestyle Relay: 4th place (Adysen Janacek (29.02), Paige Michalke (29.69), Celeine Fabre Fabre (28.07), and Eleanor Carey (28.69)) Girls 400 Freestyle Relay: 6th place (Eleanor Carey, Madeline Willrich, Celeine Fabre, Adysen Janacek) Boys 200 Freestyle Relay: 7th place (Gavin Cook (26.74), Dalton Landis (27.01), John Kaspar (26.11), and Hunter Sabo (25.89)) Boys 400 Freestyle Relay: 6th place (John Kaspar, Hunter Sabo, Rogan Mihatsch, Gavin Cook)
Individual Highlights
Several swimmers achieved top finishes in individual events: Adysen Janacek: 7th in the 200-yard Freestyle Eleanor Carey: 8th in the 50-yard Freestyle
Paige Michalke: 12th in the 50-yard Freestyle and 11th in the 100-yard Breaststroke Hunter Sabo: 7th in the 50yard Freestyle Rogan Mihatsch: 15th in the 50-yard Freestyle Hope Michalke: 12th in the 100-yard Butterfly Celeine Fabre: 8th in the 100-yard Freestyle Madeline Willrich: 14th in the 100-yard Freestyle John Kaspar: 9th in the 100-yard Freestyle Laney Herdler: 9th in the 500-yard Freestyle and 16th in the 100-yard Backstroke Gavin Cook: 6th in the 100-yard Breaststroke Personal Bests
The team celebrated numerous personal bests, showcasing the athletes’ improvement and commitment: Paige Michalke: 29.99 in the 50-yard Freestyle, 1:26.63 in the 100-yard Breaststroke Laney Herdler: 1:23.65 in the 100-yard Backstroke Hunter Sabo: 25.28 in the 50-yard Freestyle Rogan Mihatsch: 27.12 in the 50-yard Freestyle, 1:03.87 in the 100-yard Freestyle John Kaspar: 57.54 in the 100-yard Freestyle Dalton Landis: 1:20.32 in the 100-yard Breaststroke “This meet was a fantastic opportunity for our swimmers to showcase their progress and compete at a high level,” said their coach Gretchen Ledwik. “Breaking records and achieving such strong finishes at TISCA is a testament to the hard work these athletes have put in.”
With their exceptional showing at the TISCA Invitational, the La Grange High School Swim Team has set the stage for continued success as the season unfolds. Congratulations to all swimmers for their remarkable achievements. The team’s next meet is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14 in El Campo, where they will look to continue their outstanding season.
