Senior Connections Christmas Events Next Week
The spirit of community is alive and well at Senior Connections, where members from Schulenburg, Weimar, and Flatonia will celebrate the holiday season with a week full of engaging activities, delicious food, and valuable learning opportunities.
The festivities will commence at the Schulenburg location Monday, Dec. 16. Doors will open at 9 a.m. inviting members to gather for conversation, coffee, and various games, including dominoes and sequence. Attendees will indulge in a delicious catered meal provided by Oakridge Smokehouse, featuring fried fish, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, and hush puppies, a true culinary treat. A homemade dessert from member. Lindsey Gutierrez from Regency Home Health will join the gathering and lead a “Lunch and Learn” session about the increasingly common issue of urinary tract infections among seniors. This informative session aims to provide insights into prevention and management, ensuring members feel supported and informed.
After the serious discussions, the atmosphere will shift to a lighter note with a fun bingo game hosted by Elizabeth Marce from Shady Oak Nursing Home in Moulton.
The festivities continue in Weimar at the First United Methodist Church, with doors open from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17. The day will mirror the previous one, starting with coffee, games, and a delightful home-cooked meal featuring meatloaf, buttered potatoes, and a renowned salad created by Amanda Kridel. Members are encouraged to bring desserts to share, with Linda Heller already set to contribute.
Claudia Wick from Colorado Valley Transit will be the featured speaker, discussing transportation options available for members to assist with appointments and daily errands, addressing a significant need within the community. Bingo again will entertain participants, this time led by Chyla from Wellsential Nursing Home in Hallettsville.
The week’s highlight will be the Christmas celebration on Dec. 18 at the KC Hall in Schulenburg. Members from all locations will unite for a day packed with fun-filled activities and camaraderie. Participants are encouraged to RSVP and sign up to bring side dishes, desserts, or bread to ensure adequate meal preparations.
After members enjoy a hearty meal, they will be treated to a musical performance by Super Dave Hollis, filling the air with festive tunes and local favorites from noon to 1 p.m. honoring the rich cultures represented in the community.
There has been a change in the holiday schedule. Previously, Senior Connections had planned on closing for two weeks for Christmas and New Year’s. We can’t stand being away from you all that long. So, we are planning to open the Schulenburg location on Monday, Dec. 23, Friday, Dec. 27, Monday, Dec. 30, and Friday, Jan. 3, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. with a light lunch served. Lots of games, coffee, and even some hot chocolate and treats will be available for our Senior Connections family.
