The Fayette County Commissioners Court took action last Thursday to set the speed limit on Race Track Rd. and Gray Ln. in Pct. 1 at 35 miles per hour. Pct. 1 Commissioner Jason McBroom said residents on those county roads north of La Grange recently complained about vehicles driving dangerously fast.

The Rotary Club of La Grange will be raising money for the victims of the California fires on Thursday, Jan. 30 from 5-7 p.m. at Mac’s Daqs located at 108 W. Colorado in La Grange. Mac’s Daqs will have a special drink menu for the event. A portion of the proceeds from the purchase of those drinks will go to the relief effort. There will be a bucket raffle with prizes donated by local businesses. The Rotary Club of La Grange will match funds up to $2,000. All money will be sent to the Rotary District 5280 Charitable Foundation.

Fayette County Commissioners Court is considering a possible emergency declaration concerning illegal immigration. Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Angela Hahn said The Schulenburg Police Department (SPD) requested the declaration, which would allow them possibly receive funding through state efforts to combat illegal immigration.

La Grange Ag teacher Kylee Zapalac has been named a finalist in HEB’s Excellence in Education Contest. Zapalac was surprised in her classroom Thursday by a host of representatives from HEB, as well as several LGISD administrators.

These La Grange ISD students are the 2025 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Western Art Winners. Their work will move on to the next round of judging and will also hang in the Hayloft Gallery at NRG Park for the duration of the rodeo season.

Schulenburg ISD Superintendent Julie Motomura announced her resignation last Thursday, Jan. 23. Motomura has been named the lone finalist for the superintendent position at Buna ISD, her hometown in East Texas.

Devin Cooper and Grady Kocian, members of the La Grange High School Band will perform with the Texas All-State 4A Band in San Antonio, Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Henry B. González Convention Center as part of the 2025 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention.
