Superintendent Is Leaving SISD
Schulenburg ISD Superintendent Julie Motomura announced her resignation last Thursday, Jan. 23. Motomura has been named the lone finalist for the superintendent position at Buna ISD, her hometown in East Texas.
“Since I started with Schulenburg ISD, it’s been one of my many goals to be as transparent with you as possible - even when it was hard,” Motomura said in her announcement last week. “And I will tell you - this one is hard. Just a little while ago, I was named as the lone finalist for the superintendent position in Buna, my hometown. The lone finalist designation lasts for 21 days. This is the time set aside for both parties to finalize the decision.”
Motomura said she plans to continue to serve as the Superintendent of Schulenburg ISD until the 21 day waiting period concludes on February 12. She said the Schulenburg ISD Board of Trustees will meet to determine how to move forward in the process of selecting the next SISD superintendent.
“Our kids and staff will continue to work hard, and school will carry on with Shorthorn pride,” she said.
Schulenburg’s superintendent vacancy comes on the heels of another big resignation that took place last week. On Monday, Jan. 20, Schulenburg head football coach and athletic director Luke Hobbs announced he was leaving to take the head football coach and athletic director job at Giddings ISD.
Here’s a comment from Mike Zweschper, SISD Board President: “Regarding Dr. Motomura’s stepping down as Superintendent at Schulenburg ISD, let me say that while we hate to see her leave, we wish her well and appreciate the impact she made during her time at SISD.
“People have ask me what I think about “losing” someone like Dr. Motomura. I have had numerous conversations and interactions with her and she loves this school, the kids and the community. “Losing her” implies something went wrong and that is just not the case, she is simply fulfilling her dream.
“When we interviewed Dr. Motomura she talked a lot about her teaching experience in her home town and the legacy of her family teaching in that district. Truthfully Dr. Motomura could have retired before taking the Superintendent job at SISD. However she wanted to be a Superintendent and she has made the most of the opportunity we have her In return we reaped the rewards of her efforts.
“Yes we hate to see her go, but she has the opportunity to finish her educational career leading her home town district and with a very nice pay increase. I want to personally thank Dr. Motomura for her dedication, passion and commitment to SISD, she made a tremendous impact. We are in a much better place today than we were when she arrived and I truly believe she rekindled a deeper connection between the school and the community during her time here.
“The community should know this, we must now replace an AD and a Superintendent and we will put the necessary focus and time into making SISD successful with these two hires.
