Slow Down on Race Track Road

The Fayette County Commissioners Court took action last Thursday to set the speed limit on Race Track Rd. and Gray Ln. in Pct. 1 at 35 miles per hour. Pct. 1 Commissioner Jason McBroom said residents on those county roads north of La Grange recently complained about vehicles driving dangerously fast.

Those two roads do not have a posted speed limit. When there’s not a posted speed limit on such roads, State law sets the “prima facie” speed limit at 60 miles per hour. In order to lower it, the local governing body, in this case the Commissioners Court, must hold a public hearing and then make a formal finding and determination that the prima facie speed limit is unreasonable or unsafe.

The Commissioners did just that at their meeting last Thursday, Jan. 23. No one other than McBroom spoke during the hearing. Commissioners unanimously agreed to set the speed limit at 35 miles per hour.
