18-Year-Old Arrested After Car Pursuit

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Wednesday, Oct. 5 around 12:15 p.m. narcotics investigators attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2003 Chevrolet white SUV for a traffic violation in the Cedar Creek subdivision on Hrbacek St. The SUV failed to stop and a pursuit entailed through the subdivision and the vehicle turned on Von Minden St. and the pursuit continued turning on FM 2145 traveling north. Deputy A.J. Gonzales joined the pursuit as other Fayette County Deputies responded. The vehicle turned in a driveway on FM 2145 just before Chapparal Estates. The driver a white male bailed out of the vehicle and jumped a fence and a foot pursuit continued. Narcotic Investigators and Deputy Gonzales were able to catch the fleeing suspect and he was taken into custody.

Annual Genealogy Workshop Begins Oct. 21

In celebration of October as Family History Month, the Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives in La Grange will again join the Genealogy Network of Texas (GNT) for a series of eight streamed genealogy programs on Friday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The GNT is a state-wide initiative to connect libraries and provide educational and research opportunities and is spearheaded by the Genealogy Center of the Waco-McLennan County Library.

New Ulm Oktoberfest will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, rain or shine at The New Ulm Fireman’s Park. This fun filled festival provides delight for all. Come sing and dance to authentic German music, taste the hearty foods and enjoy your cold drink of choice. There will also be a vendor area with local artisans, crafters and businesses offering a variety of items to take home. The gates open at 10 a.m. German food, including sausage, sauerkraut, desserts and more available for sale along with wine and beer and non-alcoholic drinks. Scheduled to perform in the morning is Mason Marek, New Ulm singer- songwriter and Don Allphin from Sealy. Afternoon performances feature authentic German music by Gene Hackemack & Band and Duane Wavra.

La Grange Home a Total Loss in Sunday Night Fire

A home on Camp St. in La Grange belonging to Eva Caine caught fire Sunday night, Oct. 2. Fire Chief Frank Menefee said the family was able to get out of the home without any injuries. However, he said the double wide manufactured home suffered extensive damage and will likely be a complete loss.

LG’s Deborah Bradley Named New Director of Texas Quilt Museum

Karey Bresenhan and Nancy O’Bryant Puentes, co-founders of the Texas Quilt Museum, announced today that Deborah Bradley has been named the Museum’s new Managing Director. She replaces Julie Maffei, who had been with the Museum since its 2011 opening and recently retired.

Flatonia Mourns Death of Teacher

Flatonia ISD cancelled classes Wednesday so students and faculty could attend the funeral at Swiss Alp Lutheran Church for elementary teacher Keely Brower, 37, who died Oct. 1 after a short battle with Leukemia.
