A home north of La Grange burned to the ground Sunday morning, Aug. 10.

Warda resident Kristy Hentschel was recently awarded the honor of Rotarian of the Year. She has served as the president of the Rotary Club of Giddings for the past 2 years.

Initial discussions have begun about building an additional bay in the fire station. Rodney Sladek, deputy fire chief for the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department stated, “With the growth in this area that we’re having, we’re looking to add a bay to the station. We got approval from City Council to look at adding on but we’re in the early stages of planning.”

Roland Beainy, a Lebanese immigrant and one of the parties to a lawsuit over the Trump Burger Restaurant in Flatonia, faces mounting legal trouble. This week the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) accused him of “flagrant abuse” of U.S. immigration laws.

La Grange Volunteer Fire Department put out a tractor fire near Holman on Saturday, Aug. 9.

How can we protect ourselves if we are not aware of the risks that we are open to? Friends of the Weimar Library will present the program, Protecting Against Fraud and Scams. This free program will be available to the public on Friday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m at the library.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of July. Investigator Marc Bennett is working numerous cases involving assault, fraud, stolen items and property damage.

There are several wonderful after school programs available at the library. Junior Master Gardener Kids Garden Class is for 4-5 grade students. This four-week workshop will be held Wednesdays 4-5:15 p.m. in October and November.

The back-to-school season can bring excitement for young people as they prepare to see their classmates again, meet new teachers and students, and explore new subjects. For youth in foster care, however, starting a new school year can feel scary and uncertain because the odds are stacked against them when it comes to their educational success.

St. Mary’s in Ellinger invites you to their 75th annual bazaar on Sunday, Aug. 24. Starting at 10:30 a.m. there will be a drive through and dine in meal at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Hall consisting of fried chicken, sausage and all the trimmings for $15 a plate.
