County Facing Costly Health Insurance Hike

The Fayette County Commissioners Court spent about half of their 2½ hour meeting last Thursday discussing ways to save money on employee health insurance. Clarissa Messinger and Brian Naiser from Texas Association of Counties (TAC), the County’s health insurance provider, appeared at the meeting.

Katy Man Arrested in La Grange For Threatening Lawmakers

A State Trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) arrested a person in La Grange Saturday in connection to a threat made against state lawmakers. The DPS Capitol Region in Austin announced Saturday morning that they identified a “credible threat” towards state lawmakers during the “No Kings” protest at the State Capitol.

Wotipka Gets Five Life Sentences

A Fayette County Jury sentenced Jackie Glenn Wotipka to five life sentences last week. Wotipka, 53 of La Grange, stood accused of three counts of first degree felony sexual assault of a child and two counts of second degree felony indecency with a child by contact.

Man Arrested in LG For Shooting Stepson During Altercation

La Grange Police arrested a local man following a shooting in the Northpointe neighborhood early Saturday morning, June 14. Police Chief David Gilbreath said that around 2 a.m. on Saturday, 55-year-old Grover Greene had gotten into an argument with his estranged wife at her residence on Northpointe Ave. Gilbreath said Greene’s stepson intervened in the altercation. Greene pulled out a gun and shot his stepson multiple times, Gilbreath said.

Fayette County EMS transported the victim to an Austin hospital, and he was still in the hospital on Sunday, Gilbreath said.

Animal Shelter Update

As of June 6, the total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter in 2025 is 782: dogs and 420 cats in need. There are 172 animals in care: 74 dogs and 98 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to a rescue partner.
