Fair Week is Here: Ribbon Cut at Food Court, Ticket Sales Update
The Fayette County Fair Association held a ribbon cutting Thursday, Aug. 21, for the new food court at the Fairgrounds.
Colorado Valley Communications bought the naming rights to the food court. Board members and staff from the telephone cooperative were on hand for the ceremony, along with Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller and La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery.
CVC Board President Gene Kruppa welcomed a big crowd that nearly filled the building. Father Eddie Winkler of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn delivered a blessing. Fair Association President Michael Zuhn tanks the many donors and volunteers who made construction possible.
Mueller and Dockery both delivered remarks about the good times and fellowship that took place during the Fair under the old German-Czech Mart which previously stood on the site and how the new food court will continue that tradition.
Afterwards, representatives from the Fair Association, CVC board members along with City and County leaders went outside and cut a green ribbon under the big new Colorado Valley Communications sign.
On Friday, Zuhn told the Record that the Fair already sold 1,600 one-day passes for Saturday night at the Fair, Aug. 30. Hudson Westbrook headlines the entertainment that night.
“Hudson is bringing everyone in,” Zuhn said.
“Even season passes are going well - last week we were already ahead of where we were last year,” Zuhn added.
Zuhn said the Fair Association anticipates a big crowd and limited parking at the Fairgrounds on Saturday night. For that reason, the Fair Association had arranged off-site parking at La Grange High School. Six buses will be available to transport attendees to and from the Fairgrounds. The buses will start running at 7 p.m., Zuhn said “Otherwise things are looking really good,” Zuhn said.
In addition, he said the Fair will set up a large screen and speakers at the Marge Rosenberg stage so that folks can watch the concert there if they wish.
